Every once in a while you come across a name that’s gonna make you scratch your head and really ponder “Why such a name?” My cords struck the same angle with DAO, the latest entrant in Thai food; based out of GK-1, N-block market. I was skeptical about visiting the place initially but this place is bound to make not just your heads but your complete body turn back to it every single time with it’s sophisticated food and ambience.

The place seems small initially as you enter but there is a much bigger deck with a great view to house a better number or people, the interiors are soothing with a noir touch giving it a very old-school look. Extensive numbers of menus are bound to confuse you-general people get 3 while I was lucky to score 4, One each for food, drinks, dimsums and a mystic-mango festival that was on only from 24th may to 15th June.

My order started with the humble raw-mango salad which is very refreshing and has a great tangy flavour, blending with groundnuts works really well together. The Dragon & Phoenix siu-mai is a great depart for anyone who has had enough of Hargow and still wants something from prawns in the shape of a dimsum , these ones are infused with shallot oil and have a smooth texture and ensure a “melt-in-mouth” experience.

The Veg Puffs are a selection of new age dumplings that are baked, a soothing depart from the usual lineup; These were lightly stuffed with five spices and veggies and are great, with a smooth soft baked crust. A great drink in between all this food is Tamarind water which will compel you to order another one within next 5 minutes.

The Ba Mee Kee Mao are a great selection if you appreciate noodles, these are stir fried noodles with bean sprouts and greens with a choice of chicken/prawn or veg . This is something that will easily find space in anyone’s plate may it be a 10 years old or 50. The grilled salmon in mango sauce was another selection of main course from the festival specific limited menu which was scrumptious, although I would have preferred a complete slice of salmon instead of bite sized chunks.

Speaking of dessert I don’t think there can be any comparison to a Tab Tim Grob from Thailand when it comes to taste or health factor, with numerous options available to this delicacy I was served one with rose flavour, certainly not the best but definitely not bad either. Oh! if you are wondering about the name, dont worry “we still rock the same boat“.

The PLF for the place is 3000 INR for 2, the number to contact is (+91)-9555996655 and the suggested orders are Dragon & Phoenix Siu mai, Tamarind water and Ba Mee Kee Mao.
Sounds a nice place for good lunch 🙂
