It takes tremendous effort for anyone to stand firm on its foot once if you have lost the grip. There used to be a time about a decade back when people used to step out looking for good food where nice music was always a cherry topping but in the recent times. The food Industry has vastly changed and now you need to be really specific and clear with your USP or your business strategies.
Turquoise cottage used to be a great party place, which started way back in 1997 from Adchini. The concentration there was on great music with Asian food as an offering with a strong hand of Chindian (Indianised-Chinese), but time changed and unfortunately they could not bear the blow of time and had to reconsider the whole idea and that’s when Chef/Consultant Umesh Kapoor introduced the idea of a Cafe which concentrates on food from across the globe and music would still be there with live gigs at times.
The idea worked really well and today the brand has been reincarnated with 3 branches one each in Gurgaon, Saket and Kamla-Nagar. I got a chance to check out the Kamla-Nagar one as this would be a game changer for the whole area considering the fact that there were only low cost cafe’s operating in the area keeping in mind the student crowd of north campus.
The menu is mostly new, a great start could be the Roast chicken in cheese soup where the cheese is molten with the chicken and a thick broth is made which is extremely creamy and rich, this is simply something that takes out the boring part out of a soup. General Tso’s Dumplings in hot and sour soup is a wonderful combination too, chicken dumplings are served in a hot and sour soup with bread on side. In the original TC they had the same dish but the soup would mostly go waste, the little incorporation of bread makes it a complete meal and decreases the wastage by leaps and bounds.
For the sea food lovers Grilled river sole with sundried tomatoes and roast chilli marinade is a wonderful option, with its chunky and healthy fish which has subtle taste and the marinade gives a beautiful sublime hint of tomatoes. If you are a south Indian or have a thing for Gunpowder then the Southern style gunpowder chicken is your best-bet, with pungent Gunpowder laced all over the chicken and is extremely nostalgic.
The Armageddon mutton burger is one of the finest burger in the offering, with a handsome mutton patty, generous servings of cheese and onion rings on top this stands to be one of the most Americanized one, far from its sloppy range of brothers. The Indian chicken risotto is strictly Al-Dante, so do not expect it to be overcooked matching the Indian taste buds, but unfortunately it was considerably dry when plated.
The Seared Chermoula Sole with Thai mayo and tamarind salsa was also excusite with juicy chermoula and not the dry dusted ones that I have been offered mostly at other places. The masterstroke lies in Spit roasted chicken with a choice of 4 sauces that are completely different from one another namely the creamy mustard sauce which will clearly put the biggest mustard sauce makers to shame, the second one was roasted tomato and chilli, next was a mushroom herb and cream sauce and last being my favorite Thai sticky ginger and chilli sauce.
The PLF for the place is 1600 INR for 2, the place can be booked at (+91)-8826990969 & the suggested orders are Grilled river sole, Gun powder chicken and Spit Roasted chicken.
