There is no dearth of Italian diners in Delhi, you could locate many in one of the popular food hubs across the NCR, but that wasn’t the case 2 decades back when La Piazza located at Hyatt Regency New Delhi came into existence. Being one of the early entrants has its numerous un-ignorable pro’s and con’s stitched to it. Chef Luca Digirolamo who was highly inspired by his grandmother to cook has managed to stir some of the quintessential Rome and modern day Milan food which keeps up with the fashion quotient of the city for a new and revamped menu of La Piazza.
The place has a dark ambiance, which is apt for spending time with someone special. I was greeted with a sour dough, right after seating and the food affair followed on, without much delay; starting with Antipasto di affurnicati which is the antipasti fish platter of perfectly smoked hot as well as cold Salmon & Mackerel.
The Ravioli con taleggio, Menta e salsa al pepe nero is Ravioli done in Taleggio cheese, which has a pungent flavour as well as fragrance topped with black pepper sauce. It was a smearing blast of flavours and a clear work of art. The Polpette di anatra con pepperoni e fagiolini are mild spicy duck meat balls, with beans and bell-peppers. The duck meat was soft, unlike the usual texture of same meat done at other places.
The star of the table was Tagliata di tonno ai carboni which is charcoal flavoured black pepper tuna with misticanza or the mixed green salad. The dish had the most unusual plating I have ever come across, the meat was served on top of a charcoal block as a part of experience; The tuna here was absolutely mesmerizing. For desserts we were served the Sicilian cassata which wasn’t the best but the Tiramisu in follow on was a great cover up.
The PLF (pocket loosening factor) for the place is INR 3000 for 2, the number to contact is (011)-26791234 and the suggested orders are Ravioli con taleggio & Tagliata di tonno.
